Relationships between teachers and students =
The strength of our student relationships makes the difference
in translating our passion for teaching
into their passion for learning

Every year on the 5th of October, Russia and some other countries celebrate Teacher’s Day. This profession is as challenging as it is rewarding. The members of our English Speaking Club decided to continue the “celebration” and on the 18th of October they met and discussed various problems connected with the educational process and their possible solutions. The key idea of the session was how to build positive student-teacher interactions. The participants of the Club shared their points of view answering the questions: How should teachers treat students? How should students treat teachers? The ideas were exchanged both in pairs and in groups.
The second part of the session started with a video clip from the TV series “Олдскул”. (Summary: Mariya Trifonova is a real "old school" maths teacher, the last "Teacher of the Year of the USSR". In her classes, children are not only afraid to take out their phones, but they do not even breathe without permission. Unexpectedly, she finds herself in an elite school - all for the chance to improve relations with her only granddaughter, whom she has not seen for many years due to a conflict with her daughter. Mariya is faced with an unusual approach to teaching: freedom, technology and spoilt children from wealthy families here…)

Once again the host of our Club asked his tricky questions: How should a teacher react in this situation? Do you agree with how the teacher reacted? Imagine yourself in the teacher’s position. What would you do? At the end of the meeting the teachers were offered to remember their school years and make a list of the points concerning the changes in the relationship between teachers and students since Soviet times…
We are delighted that the number of our Club participants is increasing – some young learners have joined us to improve their English speaking and listening skills. They admit that spontaneous chats, a kind feedback, a supportive space without pressure and marks make the process of learning English enjoyable. Our Speaking Club can boost your fluency and help you think on your feet! Are you still reflecting? It is better to come and see it for yourself!
